Best Sport Pubs in Budapest to Watch the Game

There are plenty of sports pubs in Budapest where you can catch the game with your friends, some local fans, and a cold one in hand. There are so many, in fact, that it may be hard to choose the perfect Budapest bar to catch the game tonight. These forthcoming bars definitely stand out from the crowded nightlife scene, and we are sure you can enjoy yourself regardless of the sport you are into!

John Bull

A classic British sports pub, bringing you steaks, burgers, a wide selection of beer and ale, and that inimitable sports pub atmosphere. Their main profile is obviously football, but boxing, darts, tennis, golf, and cricket are all shown on one of the many screens that adorn this pub. They have very affordable weekly menus, and some stand-alone pub favorites (try the sausage, you will not regret it!), making them one of the best sports pubs in Budapest. This is the longest-running sports bar in the city, open since 1989, with a very loyal and impressive following.

The Pointer Pub

The Pointer is also a traditional British-style sports pub and the largest franchise of its kind with 6 locations across Budapest. In a few locations, they serve delicious street food, including burgers and other finger foods against a fabulous beer selection and all of their joints have screens where you can catch the “footie”. What makes these pubs truly stand out is their selection of beers, some of which are brewed especially for them, and cannot be found at any other Budapest sports bar. Although the food is great, the unique craft beers on tap and a chance to watch some football are the main profile of this doggie. A real taste of that old British sports bar in Budapest. Not to be missed for beer fans!

Champs

Champs sport pub Budapest is almost a franchise. They have two locations, one at Dohány Street in the inner city, and one on Margaret Island. Both places focus mostly on football, but also screen rugby, American football, darts and boxing matches, with great food to boot. This pub is more of a restaurant than a true bar, going above and beyond the call of just plain bar snacks, and providing a wide selection of food along the game. Both locations are superb, but if the weather permits, we strongly recommend the island locale. It is huge, fits over 400 people outdoors, with an enormous screen, and has a great laid-back atmosphere with wonderful natural surroundings.

Ziccer

Ziccer is a football pub, pure and simple. Cheap, fun, and somewhat of a dive bar, this sports pub is exactly what you wish you could find on the corner of your hometown. The knowledgeable debate about teams and stats, cheap but quality beer, on draft or in bottles, Hungarian wines, and Pálinka made just for this bar, and football fans galore are what you can expect. A good time with nothing fancy, this is the classic night-out-with-the-boys kind of place, so if you are wondering where to watch football and get drunk in Budapest, this is it! Come on down, grab a beer and watch the game with some like-minded individuals.

Jack Doyle’s

Undoubtedly the best Irish pub in Budapest. Forsaking the cheesiness you would expect, they go for a genuine Irish feel. Jack Doyle’s is as authentic as you can get, outside of Ireland. They have football, rugby, cricket, tennis, UFC and boxing, Formula 1 racing, and sometimes even American football, making them much more diverse than other sports bars in Budapest. They host regular events and parties, even work parties for companies, and offer a 10% discount to students.

Their location is also noteworthy, it is in the legendary Pilvax köz, in the 5th district, so you can enjoy your Guiness amid some of the most beautiful surroundings the city has to offer. One of the only places to catch almost every league of Rugby, so if you are a fan, this is definitely the place for you.

Stifler

Stifler is essentially a burger joint with a great bar and pool tables galore. They also show games on their wide-screen TVs all around the place. This place is best for when you want to eat a good greasy burger, grab a couple of pints and just watch the game with your mates. Very affordable and doubling as the city’s most popular pool saloon, Stifler is the perfect place to start your night. After your team has won (and why wouldn’t they?), you can keep drinking and playing here, or go to one of the locales mentioned in this listicle. Cheers, and enjoy the game!
